Leota Wegner

September 12, 1929 — July 10, 2008

Leota A. Wegner, 78, died in Port Orchard July 10, 2008.  She was born September 12, 1929 in Elgin, North Dakota to Edwin & Helen (Dittus) Sept.  She graduated from Elgin High School in 1947.  After graduation, she worked as secretary for the Register of Deeds office for Grant County Courthouse in Carson, North Dakota.  Leota married Herbert H. Wegner June 6, 1948 at the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Leith, North Dakota.  They had two daughters, Cherelyn K. born in 1949 and Darla D. in 1951.  They farmed and raised cattle on the Wegner homestead for thirteen years before their move to Montana in 1961.  Together with her husband, Leota helped manage and operate the Lake Enco Service Station in Polson, Montana for seven years.  From there she went into the food service occupation and why not, as she was the best darn "German" cook in the world as far as her family and friends were concerned.  Leota and Herb moved in 1973 to Des Moines, Iowa to be near their daughters.  In 1984 they moved to Port Orchard where Leota retired from Food Service.  At the time of her death, she was a resident and in the care of the most wonderful care center in the world, LIFE CARE CENTER OF PORT ORCHARD.  As her family and friends mourn her loss, we know her last few months of care could be surpassed by no other care facility. Surviving are daughters Cherelyn K. (Robert) Ferguson of Des Moines, Ioq & Darla D. (Houston) Carter of Port Orchard; grandchildren Angela R. (David) Appleget of Des Moines, Iowa, Jamie L. (Alan) Byer of Gig Harbor, Washington, Scott M. (Shawna) Ferguson of Des Moines, Iowa, Matthew A. (Heather) Williams of Tacoma, Washington, and Michael A.
