Leroy Ingles, 84 of Olympia, Washington died on April 12, 2001 at Puget Sound Health Care Center in Olympia. He was born on July 31, 1916 in Rushville, Illinois to Frank & Nancy (Rittenhouse)Ingles. Leroy married Wyona C. Janke on April 22, 1945 in Napa, California.Mr. Ingles retired in 1965 after 30 years of service in the U.S. Navy. He achieved the rank of Master Chief Torpedoman and was COB of the first nuclear submarine ''Nautilus'' in 1955. Subsequent to his retirement, he worked for 5 years until 1970 with Lockeed as a Missile Assemblyman at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Subase Bangor. Leroy was a member of the V.F.W. and a life member of the Masonic Lodge in Illinois.Surviving are his wife Wyona of Olympia; son Lt. Col. Ralph Ingles with the U.S. Marine Corps in San Diego, California; daughters Dodie Ness of Port Orchard and Debi Young of Olympia; brother William Ingles of Bellevue, Washington; sister Myrtle Ellen Haynes of Ft. Meyers, Florida; and 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by granddaughter Heather Ness.Private family services are planned. Memorial donations may be made to the U.S.S. Nautilus Museum.
