Lillian Chess

Lillian Yvonne Chess, 92 of Port Orchard, died July 30, 2012.  She was born June 7, 1920 in Roseau, MN to Erick V. & Olga Y. (Nasland) Nordval.  She graduated from Roseau High and later from Olympic College in Bremerton.  She married William A. Chess on January 11, 1940 in Roseau and he preceded her in death in 1997. Lillian worked as a Clerk for the Kitsap County Treasurer and Tax Offices, retiring in 1975.  She was a member of First Christian Church in Port Orchard, Sons of Norway in Bremerton, and Kitsap Old Fiddlers. Surviving are son Erick Chess of Port Orchard; daughters Sharon (Ron) Fitch, Lynnette (Steve) Jonson & Karen (Gordy) Eslava; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by companion Casey Zaggagnini, brothers Carl & Gustof & sisters Ruby & Ethal. Graveside service at 11:00 am on Monday, August 6, 2012 at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Port Orchard. Celebration at 1:00 at Sunnyslope Improvement Association, 5380 Old Clifton Rd, Sunnyslope.    The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Butler & Staff of Life Care Center and Kitsap Health for Lillian’s excellent care.
