Loren Saling, aged 81, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2023, at his home in Port Orchard, WA. Loren was a man of great character, known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Loren was born on August 6, 1941, in Yakima, WA, to Melvin and Hazel Saling, He attended Shadle Park High School in Spokane, Washington, and furthered his education by graduating from Eastern Washington University in 1969. Loren proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force Reserve and was honorably discharged in December 1968.
Loren worked diligently throughout his life, serving as a wildland firefighter in Montana, social worker at Mission Creek Youth Camp, and building a successful business in S&R Small Engine Repair in Belfair from 1971 to 1976. Later, he went on to work as an application engineer and store manager with Berg Evans Chain Company in Seattle before moving on to Washington Belt until his retirement.
Loren was a man of strong faith and was married to his beloved wife, Meredith, on August 22nd, 1964 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Spokane. He enjoyed fishing with his best friend Jerry McCallie, his sons, and his grandsons. He also loved boating, camping, working on cars, and going on road trips to Utah, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park, and Mount Rushmore and taking a 50th wedding anniversary cruise to Alaska. Loren was a man of simple pleasures and had a fondness for black licorice and mincemeat pie, as well as black olives.
Loren is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Meredith, his daughter Cami, sons Aaron and Lon, adopted sons Jaymeson and Max, his grandkids Avorie, Brielle, Christian, Riley, Isaiah, Eli, and great-grandson Jayden. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Larry, his grandson Skylor and his granddaughter Madison.
Loren's presence in the lives of his wife, children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends will be cherished forever. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 2pm at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park to honor Loren's life.
