Louis "Archie" Henderson went to be with the Lord on June 15th, 2013. Louis was born in Yazoo, Mississippi on June 22nd, 1937. He graduated from Dunbar High School in Chicago, Illinois in 1954. He enrolled in the United States Air Force in 1954 and worked as a Munitions Specialist. During his Military Service he earned the Meritorious Service Award, National Defense Service Medal, Master Missile Man Badge, Vietnam Campaign and Service Medals, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation Medal and an Air Force Commendation Medal. He was stationed in many different countries including the Netherlands, England, Thailand and Turkey. He retired from the Air Force in 1977 and worked for a year at Bangor Naval Station and then started a 13 year career with the Postal Service in Port Orchard.
Upon retiring from the Postal Service, Louis earned a Government Service Award in 1992 for having worked a total of 36 years for the Federal Government. He then retired from working all together at the young age of 55.
Louis spent his retirement enjoying RV'ing with his motor home clubs. He and his wife Marge traveled extensively and were able to visit 48 States and meet many interesting people and visit historic landmarks and famous places. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, played and coached softball. His favorite hobbies included ceramics and doing Sudoku puzzles.
Louis is survived by his loving wife Marge of 53 years, his children Sabrina Henderson-Carnes, Gloria Henderson, Carol Jack and Son-in-Law Robert Jack. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and eight great-grand children, two sisters, cousins – Frankie, Oliver, Georgia and Donald, and a host of nieces and nephews, his life-long brother Morris Scruggs, his Washington family of friends, the Play it Again Sams, the Fun Seekers, and the Emerald City Rolling Roadsters. Also included are his adopted Washington Children, Sisters and Brothers Edith Birch, Gwen Wicker and family, Nora & Llyod Burroughs, Helen and Henry Dula, Donald and Florence Cowdery, Robert and Jackie Bennett, Danielle Toms, Denise Williams, Edvine Evans, Alice Taylor, Celia Bell, James Thomas, Henry and Bernice Brown, The Cunninghams, The Workmans, The Brackens and Gary Strickland.
At Louis’ request, a private family interment service will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery. The family would like to extend an invitation to all who wish to share their memories of Louis at a celebration of his life on Friday, June 28th 2013 at 2pm at Rill Chapel Life Tribute Center located at 1151 Mitchell Ave in Port Orchard, WA 98366.
