Luther Michael Hooks was born in Tampa, Florida on September 29, 1946. He passed on to eternal life on November 29, 2024 while in Washington State Veterans Home, Port Orchard. His last residence, Allyn, WA.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Mac Hooks (North Carolina) and Stella Estelle Wisenbaker Hooks (Georgia) of Tampa, Florida.
Michael is survived by his beloved family. His wife Beverly Hinds Hooks of 57 years; living in grateful joy and awe while sharing the last 50 years in Oregon and Washington State. He is also survived by his daughter Jennifer Hooks McElroy and son-in-law Todd McElroy. Grandchildren, Brianna McElroy and Asher McElroy. His son Justin Michael Hooks and daughter-in-law Debbie Lyn Hooks. Grandchildren, Zoe Hooks, Georgia Hooks and Mac Hooks. He is also survived by his brothers Danny Hooks presently of Savannah, Georgia. Ronnie Hooks and wife, Warlee Hooks presently of Thailand.
Michael lived his life in pursuit of knowledge, with a degree in Math and Computer Science. Along with a deep love of Biblical Archaeology, History, Ancestry, and Philosophy as his studies continued throughout life.
His life’s career began at Lockheed Georgia. Followed by eight years of service in the US Coast Guard in Search and Rescue, as a helicopter copilot, navigator and rescue swimmer. The last four years he served on helicopters assigned to Icebreaker ships, US Boarder safety control against illegal fishing and drug trafficking. His last billet was the opening of Coos Bay USCS Air Station, Coos Bay, Oregon. His career continued with Boeing, Portland and Seattle. Recruited by Earnst and Young as a Mechanical Engineering Consultant, Seattle. He worked nationally, and globally. His career was cut short with E&Y by disabling heart surgery and stroke. However, in his last twenty-five years, Michael with his intense determination managed to walk and participate in life once again. He was able to enjoy his beautiful grandchildren and find a deep sense of God’s Peace in his life.
His body will be laid to rest at Tahoma National Cemetery Tuesday January 7, 2025 at 12:30pm in Kent, Washington under the direction of Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center Funeral Home, 1151 Mitchell Ave. Port Orchard, WA 98366.
