M. Opal Walter, 91, of Port Orchard, WA, died November 22, 2001, at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton, WA. Opal was born September 3, 1910, in Anselmo, NE, to Fred and Mabel (Lindly) Anderson. She graduated from Anselmo High School and then attended college in Nebraska for 1 year.In June 1931, Opal married Marion Crumrine in Merna, NE. They were later divorced, and then in July 1939, Opal married George Walter in Greeley, CO. George preceded her in death in 1983 and is buried in Texas.Immediately following her finishing college, Opal taught school for 2 years in Nebraska. She later worked for 17 years as an Addressograph Operator for the Kitsap County Assessor's Office in Port Orchard, retiring in 1972.Opal was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and the South Colby United Methodist Church.Survivors include her sons, Donald Walter, of Port Orchard, and Carl Walter, of Humble, TX; brothers, Robert Anderson, of Nebraska, and Raymond Anderson, of Joplin, Missouri; sisters, Leota Cantrell, of Boise, ID, and Doris Wilmoth, of Merna, NE; 13 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and 8 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Leora Nelson in 1981, an infant son in 1933, and a brother, Ralph Anderson.Viewing will be held on Saturday, November 24, from 9AM to 1PM at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. A graveside service will follow at Sunset Lane Cemetery in Port Orchard at 2PM. A memorial service will be Sunday, November 25, 3PM at South Colby United Methodist Church.Memorials can be made to a favorite charity of the donor's choice.
