Mabel Spiese

Mabel C. Spiese, 85, died at her home in Port Orchard, Washington on January 3, 2000.  She was born February 17, 1914 in Reading, Pennsylvania to John E. & Cora (Kummerer) Leese.  Mabel married Clair Spiese in Reading on December 25, 1924.  He preceded her in death in 1997.Mrs. Spiese was a telephone operator and church organist in Reading, Pennsylvania.  In 1978, she moved to Port Orchard, Washington and managed the Village Green Apartments for 6 years.  Mabel was an organist Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.  She was a member of the Retsil Community Church where she also played the organ for the last 17 years.  She loved music, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.Surviving are son Roger Spiese of Port Orchard; grandchildren Shane Spiese, Bethany Thorpe, and Heather Spiese; and 5 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by 4 brothers.A Memorial Service will be held at Retsil Community Church at 11:00am on Saturday, January 8, 2000.  A potluck luncheon will follow at the Kitsap Square Dance Center on the Old Belfair Highway in Gorst at 12:30pm.  Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane Cemetery in Port Orchard.  Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County.
