Mario Gonzales was born on November 21, 1937 in Houston, Texas. He was the youngest of eight siblings: 3 sisters and 4 brothers, all born in Houston. He lived in Texas until 2013 when he moved to Washington to be closer to his remaining family.
He served active duty in the Marines in the late 1950s then upon discharge studied and became a Texas City Police Officer. While serving as a law enforcement officer, he attended college, gained a Master’s degree in History and joined the Army Reserves. He retired from law enforcement and the military when in his 60s.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
He was survived by his daughter Elaina Gonzales-Blanton, step-daughter Virginia White, step-sons Gene Motal and Tom Bosley, their mother Sandra Waldron; his grandchildren and step grandchildren Vivian Gonzales, Kathryn Moore, Mark Moore, Ona Blanton, Rachel Strange, Andrew White, Tancy White; and by one great-granddaughter.
He died in his home on July 22, 2017 with his stepdaughter by his side.
He lived a full life.
