Marjorie “Marge” Gumpert (Boquist), 88, formerly of Sun City West, AZ and Garden Grove, CA, died peacefully on September 27th, 2020 in Port Orchard, WA. Marge was born in Cloquet, MN in 1932 to Albin and Violet Boquist. After graduating from Carleton College, she moved to Hartford, CT, for work before heading out west to San Francisco, CA. There, she met and married Floyd Gumpert of Prineville, Oregon in November of 1956.
The two, for more than 30 years, made their home on Spring Street in Garden Grove, CA, raising their two sons surrounded by a wonderful group of dear friends and neighbors. Marge enjoyed working with children as a preschool administrator and later as a substitute teacher. After becoming empty-nesters, Marge and Floyd moved to Sun City West, AZ, where they enjoyed a fulfilling retirement life. She was an active member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West, an avid golfer and bridge player, and enjoyed gathering with friends and family.
Marge spent the last two years in Port Orchard, WA, where she could be closer to her sons and their families, but still kept in touch frequently with friends in Arizona, “back home” in California, and dear relatives and buddies near and far.
She is survived by her sons, Tom and Chuck, their spouses Susan (Klippenstein) Gumpert and Christopher Mathie; grandson Stephen Gumpert (fiancée Susie Baley), granddaughter Sarah (Gumpert) Lynam (husband Robert Lynam); and great-grandson David “Davey” Lynam. She was preceded in death by her parents Albin and Violet Boquist, sister Elizabeth “Liz”, and husband of 54 years, Floyd. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin, and aunt — she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marge will be interred beside Floyd at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West, AZ. Private family services.
