On Tuesday September 19th we lost our beloved father and husband Mark Erland Baldwin. Mark was born February 13th, 1944, in Crookston Minnesota and spent his younger years in Duluth until he was 12. The family then moved to Burien where he attended Highline High School. He attended 2 years at Pacific Lutheran University and finished his business and marketing degree at The University of Washington in 1968. He was a proud Husky! At PLU he was a member of the crew team and proud that he actually crewed in the original 1936 Olympic winning “Boys in the Boat" crew boat that was loaned to them from University of Washington.
Born in Minnesota to Thayne and Edith Baldwin, Mark was the was the youngest of 3 with two older sisters Enid Conning (Robert) and Avis Rill (Bill). Mark married Christine Cannon, an avid University of Oregon alum, February 17th, 1973, and they just celebrated their 50th Anniversary this past year. Mark is survived by his wife Chris, his Daughter Lisa Hale (Travis) and son John Mark Baldwin (Kelsey). In addition, his beloved grandchildren who he deeply loved and cherished: Macy and Piper Hale, Bennett and Adley Baldwin. After Mark and Chris were married, they moved to New Jersey for 3 years while he worked for Oscar Meyer. They moved to the Charbonneau community (Wilsonville, OR) in 1976, and raised the family there for 30 wonderful years.
Mark was a class act in all aspects of his life. He was a devoted servant to God, his family, and community. He had a giant personality, contagious sense of humor, a drive to help anyone in need, and was a remarkable gentleman. In his career he had a combined 36 years in Sales and Marketing for Oscar Meyer, Pacific Chemical, Earth Stove/Energy Alternatives, and Lennox Hearth. He received the high honor of Salesman of the Year while at Lennox.
His fondest memories would be fly fishing on Crane Prairie (especially when he caught fish), family Houseboat trips for 16 years at Lake Billy Chinook and the adventurous ski trips to Mt. Bachelor. Mark and Chris moved to Sunriver in 2007 and during retirement he loved boating trips to the San Juan Islands where he could catch endless amounts of crab and embrace the patriotic flag ceremony at Roche Harbor. His boating and fly-fishing passion continued with family and many special friends in central Oregon. Mark loved feeding the birds, squirrels and deer; and precious time with his labor-doodle Maggie.
Mark embraced and loved his 16 years of retirement working for Sunriver Resort as a shuttle driver and attendant at the Crosswater Gate House. He and Chris were one of the original homeowners in Caldera Springs. He was known to close friends as “the Mayor of Caldera” and the “Ambassador of Crosswater/Sunriver.” His passion for the Sunriver/Bend/Lapine Community included volunteering and serving Habitat for Humanity where he helped pioneer the Restore. His membership and involvement with Sunriver Christian Fellowship gave him great spiritual comfort and enduring friendships.
His Family will deeply miss his smile, his witty personality and his devoted love to his family and wife, Chris. He was a man of integrity beyond imagination.
