Mark Steffens

Marcellus ‘Mark’ Steffens, 81, a resident of Port Orchard, died April 11, 2011 in his home of natural causes. He was born June 1, 1929 in Cheney, KS the oldest of 11 children to Joseph and Christina (Loehr) Steffens. He married Chieko ‘Chic’ Koike in Honolulu, HI on January 22, 1951. They just celebrated their 60th anniversary. Mark served in the United States Navy as an enlisted man in engineering and retired as a ‘Mustang’ Lieutenant after just over 20 years. He also worked for Kitsap County in the Public Works department and in private contracting. He was a lapidary, worked with leather and made rugs; loved the ocean, mushrooming, gardening, growing rhododendrons and especially loved his grandchildren. He could build almost anything from almost nothing.  He is survived by his loving wife ‘Chic’; sons John Steffens (Lori) of Oregon, Matthew Steffens (Desiree) of Port Orchard and Brian Steffens (Saeko) of Japan; daughters Jane Krause (Terry) of Port Orchard and Judy Booth (Bruce Dyke) of Brier; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Celebration of Life will be Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.
