Mr. Marvin Harold Nowka Sr., a respected citizen of Port Orchard, Washington, died on September 19, 2001 In Gig Harbor, Washington, following a long term illness.Mr. Nowka had been born on April 9, 1917 in Trumbull, Nebraska to William and Almuth (Flesner) Nowka. He attended high school in Nebraska, but left school to work on his family's farm during the Great Depression.On June 29, 1940, Marvin married Miss Katherine Sullivan in Davenport Iowa.In 1943 Mr. Nowka joined the United States Army.He acheived the rank of Tech 4, and received the African Middle East Theater ribbon with Bronze Battle Star and the American Campaign Combat Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1945. For twenty two years he owned his own auto repair shop, ''Marv's Garage''. He retired in 1976 from the business.Mr. Nowka was a member of VFW Post 2669 in Port Orchard, and Eagles Aerie #2338.Mr. Nowka is survived by his wife, Katherine, of the family home in Port Orchard; Sons, Marvin Jr., and Robert, both of Port Orchard; daughters, Rogene Blowers, Betty Miller and Sandra Rogers of Port Orchard; brother, George Nowka of Wenatchee, Washington; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Nowka(1950); eight brothers and one sister.A memorial service will be held in his honor at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard, at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2001. The Reverend Allen Cudahy will officiate. Arrangements are under direction of Rill Chapel, Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home and Crematory. The family has asked that any memorial donations be made to V.F.W. Post 2669.
