Mary Anderson

Mary Cathrine "Kay" Grosso Anderson, 91, died at Harbor House in Poulsbo, Washington on July 5, 2006. She was born on October 2, 1914 in Seattle, Washington to C. Burton & Blanche (Shafer) Ward. She graduated from Cleveland High School in Seattle in 1932 and University of Washington in 1958 with a degree in Elementary Education. Kay taught first grade at Olalla and South Colby Elementary Schools in the South Kitsap School District. She completed her teaching career at Maple Leaf Elementary School in the Seattle School District. Kay married South Kitsap High School teacher, administrator, and baseball coach Arthur Grosso in 1938. They had two daughters Jan & Toni. Arthur preceded her in death in 1962 at which time Kay moved to Seattle and continued her teaching career. Following a brief courtship, she married David Anderson in 1969. David preceded her in death in 1992. Kay was a member of the Ann Wilson Orthopedic Guild and the American Association of University Women. Surviving are daughters Jan (Wayne) Collins of Port Orchard and Toni (Jon) Ziegler of Torrance, California; grandchildren Lisa Kay Collins, Chris Collins & Jill Pilling, all of Port Orchard, and Karl & Scott Ziegler of California; great-grandchildren Melissa & Alex Pilling, Carson & Preston Collins, and Jack Ziegler. At her request, there will be no funeral services. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard. A private family memorial will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the Children's Hospital, 4800 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle, WA 98115.
