Our beloved Mary Pontieri, 94, longtime resident of Port Orchard, passed away on June 19th, 2014, at Orchard Pointe Memory Care Center.
Mary Carmella Pontieri was born on July 15, 1919 near Spokane, WA, to Italian immigrant parents Pietro and Mary Conchetta Cerenzia. She enjoyed her early childhood on a farm before moving into town, attending schools in the area, and becoming a beautician.
She married the love of her life and fellow Spokane native Lucian (Bud) Pontieri in 1941, and gave birth to their daughter Linda in 1944. They moved to Port Orchard in the later 1940s, where she raised her family and lived for the remainder of her life.
Mary continued hairdressing for over 40 years, and enjoyed dancing, traveling, bingo, gardening, horse-racing, cooking authentic Italian foods, and attending St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, she especially loved taking care of her grand- and great- grandchildren.
She is survived by grandsons Brian Lund (Rochelle), Mark Lund (Melissa), and Ryan Pierce (Tina); granddaughter Corri Pierce; and great-grandchildren Brandi, Joli, Steven, Derek, Connar, Chloe, and Jessica. Preceding her in death were her husband Bud and daughter Linda Pierce (Ken).
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to the nursing staff of Orchard Pointe Memory Care Center of Port Orchard, and Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care of WA.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
We honor and cherish our memories of our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. “Thy remembrance shall endure into all generations.” --102nd Psalms
