Mary E. Sayers died April 24, 2003 at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard, Washington. She was 83.She was born March 6, 1920 in Williston, North Dakota to John and Ernestine(Dejarlais) Winter.Mary married Joseph Sayers July 30, 1938 in Poplar, Montana.She attended Chemawa Indian Boarding School (near Salem, Oregon). Mary received her GED and earned an Associate Art Degree in her 50's. She taught Indian Education at Cedar Heights Junior High.Mary worked as a part-time mail carrier in her early years.She was a homemaker.Mary enjoyed bowling, was secretary for the Hi-Joy Senior Bowling League for numerous years, was volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul, was a rock hound all over the N.W. states. She was Cub Scout Den Leader, wrote her own autobiography "A Gift From The Heart" published in 2002.She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard, Washington. Mary is survived by sons - W. John Sayers of Port Angeles, Washington, Thomas Sayers, Sr., Michael Sayers, and Christopher Sayers (all of Port Orchard, Washington); daughter - Patricia (Sayers) Yingling, of Allyn, Washington; brother - Tony Winter of Port Orchard, Washington; sister - Ceceila Kovolcik of Sun Valley, California, Gen Arthraud, of Hebron, North Dakota; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter - Shirley Rose (Sayers) Coppinger in 1977.A visitation will be held at Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard, Washington April 30, 2003 and May 1, 2003 from 10:00 - 5:00 p.m.A Rosary will be held at Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center on Thursday, May 1, 2003 at 7:00 p.m.A funeral mass will be held at St. Gabriel Catholic Church on Friday, May 2, 2003, at 1:00 p.m.Interment will be held at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard, Washington.Following graveside, a Celebration Gathering will be held at Lakeland Village in Allyn at the community club house.
