Mary Ann Wright

April 3, 1938 — November 19, 2023

Our beloved Granny, Mary Ann Wright, was taken home to be with the Lord on November 19, 2023. She passed away peacefully at the age of 85 in her Port Orchard home. Mary was born in San Francisco, California on April 3rd, 1938, to Carroll Custer and Alexandra Mary Gavin.

Mary was a dedicated member of the Church of Latter Day Saints serving the Lord until her passing. Mary served alongside of husband Max, at the stake storehouse providing food and household essentials to the areas church members. Mary continued to work at the storehouse after Max’s passing, until her calling ended earlier this year. She was known for her loving kindness and always being willing to lend a helping hand. One of her favorite ways of serving was to extend an open invitation to the missionaries; she loved cooking for them. In more recent years, Mary’s personal ministry was a group of ladies known as “The Golden Girls”. They would meet once a month at a local restaurant for lunch and fellowship.

Through the years, Mary loved to go camping with her family, bowling and attending her kids’ sporting events. Some of Mary’s fondest memories were made spending time with other families and friends at the little league field on Baby Doll Road. There she would ring her cowbell and cheer for her beloved Tigers. She also loved traveling with her husband Max. Many of their travels were to visit with family and to welcome new grandbabies, or great grandbabies. Mary later traveled alone to spend time with family. She traveled as far as China to be with her loved ones.

Mary loved children and ran a successful home daycare business. For over twenty years, she showered the children with the same love and nurture that she gave to her own children and grandchildren. Many of the ‘daycare kids’ along with their parents continue to be a part of our extended family. Mary’s greatest joy was being “Granny”. Gathering family and friends together at any opportunity or special occasion brought her great happiness.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of forty-five years, Max Lee Wright; Her brother Wayne White; her sisters Ellen White and Diane Inman; her sons Ricky Wayne Hunt, Scott Arthur Hunt, and Bryon Lee Noell; her grandson William Teal; and her great-grandson Judah Jeremiah Rylander.

Mary is survived by her brother, Charles H. Gavin (Chucky-Boy) of Vallejo, CA; her daughters, Peggy Louise Owens of Saginaw, TX and Dee Ann (Ron) Coale of Shelton, WA; her son Ronald Alan (Diana) Noell of Belfair, WA; her seventeen Grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Our beloved Granny will be missed.
