Melvin Emmet Hunsaker

December 4, 1932 — October 22, 2013

Tuesday October 22nd we lost a great man in Mel Hunsaker our father, our friend. Born in Burk S.D. to Elmer and Esther Hunsaker in 1932 Mel moved to Bremerton with his mother and father sister Barbara and brother Merle in 1938. After graduating from West High he found himself in the Army fighting for our country in Korea. After honorably serving he returned home to marry Mary Alice Lovejoy his wife forever. He was always interested in the next adventure big or small, he will taking that new path now. A retired Boeing designer Mel spent most of his life living in Seabeck where he loved to hunt, crab and shrimp on Hood Canal and in the Olympic Mountains. His closest friends will forever remember him as Handy because he was just that way, handy to have around; handy if you needed something fixed or figured out, handy to have around if you needed a kick in the butt… whether you wanted it or not, handy to have around if you needed a hand to hold. Never was there a more wonderful father, husband or gracious friend. Our father, our friend meant so much to all of us that he never will be gone from our lives, for the touch he had on us has shaped who we are today and forever will be. Today sometime take a minute to call your dad, mom, son or daughter for no other reason than to tell them you love them. Preceded in death by his wife Mary Alice, Mel’s memory is survived by his daughters Sue (Bruce) Johnson of Port Orchard Wa, Lori (Scott) Quy of Gorst Wa, Denise (Scott) Smith of Stockton Mo, and son Chris (Monica) Hunsaker of Silverdale Wa, grandchildren Scott, Paul, Jennifer, Tanya, Melissa, Rob, Mya and Easton along with several great grandchildren.
Services at Rill will start at 2pm and last about an hour. We would like to invite you to a celebration of life at the Eagles Club at 4001 Jackson Ave Port Orchard, WA (360) 876-2338 immediately following service.
