Michael David Harris, beloved son, brother and friend, left his earthly life and went to live with Jesus on Monday, April 13, 2015. He suffered a massive stroke on April 12 and never regained consciousness.
Michael was born on May 22, 1959 at Columbus Air Force Base in Columbus, Mississippi, to Becky and Don Harris. During his 55 years with us he blessed us with a number of talents and artistry which we will enjoy for many years. He was a master at wood working and designed and built furniture and cabinets and decks for people from North Carolina to Washington State. He also researched ocean going vessels from throughout history and built models to scale of many of them, including the Lady Washington and the Civil War submarine Hunley. He was a gifted artist and painted several pictures for friends and family. He was the business owner of Michael Harris Handy Man Services, and was very much appreciated by many customers who had him do work in their homes.
Michael and his brothers, Stephen and Douglas attained the rank of Eagle Scouts and were members of The Order of the Arrow, while growing up in Boca Raton, Florida.
One of the volunteer activities he enjoyed the most in Port Orchard, was working at Sidney Glen Elementary School behind the scenes as artist and set builder for the annual, and very popular, drama presentatons of that school. He was involved with the school for the past eight years.
He will be missed by the many folks who loved and respected this quiet and gentle man. Michael is predeceased by his father, Donald. Family members include his mother, Becky Harris, and step-father, Tom Teague of Port Orchard, WA; his brother, Stephen and wife Corrine and nieces Lydia and Callie of Port Orchard, WA, and his brother, Douglas and wife Donna and nephew Rhyne of Charlotte,NC.; His aunts and uncles Bob and Melissa Rhyne and family of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Frank and Carol Vaughn and family of Rosman, NC, Ralph and Diane Harris and family of Pensescola Beach, FL, Sandra Harris and family of Granite Bay, CA.
Thank you for the opportunity made available by Rill Chapel to commemorate Michael's life. We all loved him so very much.
