Morris P. 'Morrie' Laber,75, died at his home in South Colby on January 23, 2000. He was born on February 1, 1924 in Sykeston, North Dakota to Joseph A. & Carolyn (Palloch) Laber. Morrie married Betty Seil on January 20, 1948 in Sykeston.Mr. Laber worked for 31 years at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington, retiring on February 9, 1979 as a Rigger General Foreman. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946, landing on Normandy Beach on D-Day on June 6, 1944. For 30 years, Morrie was a Charter boat skipper out of Westport, Washington. His most noted boat was the Betty-L. Morrie was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved watching his grandsons play ball. He loved baseball, football, fishing, hunting, and golf.Surviving are his wife of 52 years,Betty of South Colby; son Keith (Cathie) Laber of Boring, Oregon; daughters Rikki (Dennis) DeBlois of Seabeck, Washington and Melody (David) Wall of Bremerton, Washington; brother Orville Laber of Salinas, California; and grandchildren Derrick & Devin Christensen of Bremerton, Brett Laber of Boring, Austyn & Taylor Wall of Bremerton.A Memorial Service will be held at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard on January 29, 2000 at 11:00am.
