Muriel Hong Fong Lee Peyrek of Port Orchard passed away Monday at the Life Care Center of Port Orchard. She was born to Dick & Doi Oi Lee in Victoria, BC, the second of six children, & was baptized in the Chinese United Church. Muriel graduated from Victoria High School and worked there as a school office secretary. She taught Sunday school classes & was very involved with the United Church young people’s group. Her adventurous spirit prompted a move to Montreal, Quebec. Here Muriel worked as an accounts payable manager for Benson & Hedges Tobacco Company until her retirement in 1976. Muriel loved to travel, and on a trip to Spain she met & later married Richard Peyrek.. Dick & Muriel relocated to his family home in Washington, NJ. After Dick retired, they moved westward to Port Orchard, WA, & joined the First Lutheran Church. Muriel loved life! She was an accomplished copper enamellist, loved sewing & quilting & even taught Chinese cooking classes at Rutger’s University Community Education in New Jersey. Muriel is survived by her sisters, Anna Ling & Isabel Lee of Victoria, BC; nephew Chris (Darlene) Ling & niece Margot Ling of Victoria, BC; stepdaughter Lori (Hans Erich) Reiter of Bochum, Germany; 2 grandnephews; 3 grand daughters & 3 great grandchildren. Special thanks to the Life Care Center staff of Port Orchard for their kindness and excellent care of Muriel. Interment at Haven of Rest Cemetery Gig Harbor,WA 11:00AM Friday, Feb. 3, 2012. Service & reception to follow at First Lutheran Community Church on Mitchell Ave in Port Orchard at 1:00 pm.
