Muriel June Riggs, 89, of Bremerton, passed away on September 24, 2010.       She was born Muriel June Lund on June 9, 1921 to Arthur and Pauline Lund, in Port Orchard, WA. Muriel grew up in Port Orchard with her older sister Virginia, and graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1939. She attended Washington State University, and then worked for Selective Service at the Kitsap County Courthouse.        On August 8th, 1942, Muriel married Jack Riggs from Long Lake, who was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, during World War II. In 1948 they moved to Sheridan Park, along with many other veterans and their families, where they raised their daughter Charlotte. They were married 64 years, until Jack preceded her in death in 2006.        Muriel worked at Bremer’s Department Store in the 1950s and 1960s. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed entertaining family, friends, and neighbors. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. She was a sweet gentle soul and will be missed.        Muriel is survived by her daughter Charlotte Pedersen (Ben), granddaughter Anna Acker (Chris), grandson Erik Pedersen, great granddaughters Muriel Grace and Virginia Louise Acker, niece Gale McInnes, (her children Melanie Lundeen and Paul McInnes), nieces Jeannie Owen, Joanie O’Neal (Loyd), Susan Chaussee (Steve), Helen Schwartz, and nephew Dick Schwartz.        A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 4th, at 1:30 p.m., at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 11th and Veneta, in Bremerton. Online memorial at www.rill.com .
