Myrle Virginia King

January 15, 1924 — February 26, 2014

M. Virginia King was born to Louis and Winifred Millin, in Canyon City, Colorado in January of 1924. Married for more than 36 years, widowed in 1976 from Lawrence W. King, logger and ship fitter, who loved music and played base fiddle, piano, violin, and guitar. Virginia was an exceptional lady, country bred with grace and wisdom of a queen. She passed away peacefully on February 26, 2014, at the age of 90 years in Harrison Hospital, Bremerton, Washington. She grew up, second youngest, surrounded by four brothers, Jack, Paul, Ray and Ralph, and her sister, Irma, helping take care of vegetable gardens and farm animals, including a riding horse, chickens, cows and pigs. Her father knew the ways of bees and gathered honey in homemade barrels, he was a farmer, a builder, a businessman, and played the accordion, while her Mother was one of the best cooks around, deep fried donuts, fried chicken. Virginia became a first class chef like her Mother, cinnamon rolls being one of the families’ favorites. Their water came from a well about 100 feet from their front door and they enjoyed a WPA-constructed outhouse. Life was hard but rewarding.
Preceded in death by her husband Lawrence and son Larry King.
She is survived by one remaining brother, Ralph Millin of Sandpoint, Idaho, four adult children, Richard King, Thomas King, and Paul King, and Marji Singleton, and 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and their children, all of whom have had varying degrees of contact with this great lady. At the early age of 19 she contracted polio which took her right arm’s use. She raised her five children after recovering, never complaining and always supportive of her kids. She will be greatly missed.
Memorial service is Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.
