Nancy Carol Gunderson, of Port Orchard, Washington passed away on Thursday, December 17. She is preceded in death by her husband Myron Gunderson, her three sons Kevin, Michael and Troy Gunderson and her parents Ivin and Phyllis Jonesen.
Nancy Carol Gunderson was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan at the Darquist Maternity Home on 24 August 1944. She hailed from the small burb of Florence, Wisconsin, where her family farmed. The Joneson family eventually relocated to Bremerton, Washington, where her father took a job working for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
A career home maker, Nancy dedicated her life to taking care of her children and her home. A lover nature and animals, Nancy and her family often spent their free time camping out in the Tahuya region of Western Washington, gardening, reading or riding the family horses on the regions numerous horse trails. When the dust settled for the evening, Nancy more often than not could be found down in the barn caring for and spending time with her favorite horse Ziggy.
More than anything, Nancy enjoyed spending her free time on the back of a horse. This eventually led to the entire family showing horses and participating in equestrian events. At one time the family’s horses outnumbered the family members 3:1.
After her husband retired, they would often head out on long drives, enjoying all the beauty that Western Washington provides. Although horses were her favorite pastime, a close second was attending local sales where she enjoyed haggling with the sellers and interacting with other buyers.
Nancy leaves behind her daughter Kristy Hugg, her sister Sally Horn, her brother Arnold Joneson, her dog Chloe and her two cats Odin and Ms. Kitty.
