Nancy Roaine Weishaar

January 2, 1950 — December 24, 2015

Nancy Roaine (Nehl) Weishaar passed away on December 24th, 2015, at the age of 65, at her mother’s home after a short battle with a spinal tumor. She was born on January 2nd, 1950 to Earl and Jane Nehl of Edmonds. The story of her birth was one of our family’s treasures. It was a cold, snowy night when the car left the driveway to the nearest hospital some twenty miles away in Seattle. But Nancy couldn’t wait, and her dad delivered her in the back seat of a ’47 Buick Roadmaster. Both mother and daughter arrived at Maynard Hospital cold, but happy and healthy.
Nancy graduated from Edmonds High School in 1968, and then enrolled at Washington State University from which she graduated in 1973. Before graduating, she helped organize and start a women’s soccer league long before Title IX. Forty years later in a ceremony on campus, the University awarded varsity letters to Nancy and other women for their pioneering efforts. But when they started that league, they just wanted to play soccer.
After college, Nancy lived in West Seattle for a couple of years before she settled in Belfair. The small town atmosphere appealed to Nancy. After a short time working for the Kitsap Journal Workshop, she gained employment for the US Postal Service and had a career that lasted over thirty years running a rural mail route in the West Bremerton area. Her dependability and friendly nature gained her many friends along her route. It was also in Belfair where Nancy met the love of her life, Robert Weishaar, better known as Emo. A retired naval man and local artist, Emo loved Nancy as she was devoted to him. They settled into a comfortable life in their house on the canal. They enjoyed traveling, especially to Maui, and visiting with their many friends and family.
Besides her marriage, her other passions included music and art. She learned to play the organ at an early age and later taught herself to play the piano. Later in life, she joined the Sweet Adelines, enjoying the singing and friendships that she made. She enjoyed learning new songs and melodies and loved attending workshops and performances with her group. Nancy also had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and lifelong abiding love in the Catholic Faith. Our Lord has received a most faithful servant.
Nancy is survived by her mother, Jane, of Edmonds; four brothers, Tim (Joy) of Baltimore, MD; Robert (Eileen) of Yakima; Martin of Shoreline; and Roy (Rhonda) of Stanwood, her husband’s children Robert Jr, Angel, Julie, Allen, many nieces, nephews, grand children and great grandchildren. Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Emo, and her father, Earl.
Nancy was a beautiful soul and will be missed by her family and friends.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Belfair, Washington, on Wednesday December 30 at 1:00 PM. Internment at Tahoma National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Donations to her name may be made to the Kitsap Pines chapter of the Sweet Adelines Singing Group of Kitsap County or the Prince of Peace Parish Catholic Church in Belfair Washington.
