Naomi Katherine Cosgrove

March 8, 1925 — August 8, 2015

Naomi Cosgrove, resident of Port Orchard, died on August 8th after a short illness. She was born in 1925 in Maryville, Missouri to Alfred and Estella Donahue Sturm. After high school, she went to work for a young airline industry as a reservationist and moved to Chicago. There she met and married Jack Cosgrove. Jack had returned from the war and was attending refrigeration school. Her career took her to Kansas City, Missouri where they raised their 3 children. She made her living as a respected travel agent in the Kansas City area. In the mid 90's, she retired to Port Orchard, Washington to be near her daughter. She loved sewing and crafts and her cookies were welcomed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a well known participant in many area crafts bazaars, selling her hand made stuffed toys, pillows, and potholders. Naomi participated in these more for the lasting friendships she developed with her fellow crafters than the money she charged for her crafts. She was often remembered for her handcrafted cinnamon magnets and her hand sewn stuffed children's books.

Throughout her life, Naomi was an active participant in the American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW, Girl Scouts, and most recently the Federation of Eagles. She was a member of Saint Gabriel's Catholic in Port Orchard Washington.

Naomi had a career when most women stayed home to raise a family. She was not afraid to try new things. She did not have time for gossip and saw God's goodness in everyone. That quality made her a good neighbor and treasured friend. From her parents, she inherited a German mind and an Irish heart. Those who know her understood that created the finest of all possible combinations in a human being.

She will be missed by her children, Sharon Brubaker of Colorado, Sandy (Greg) Pyle of Port Orchard Washington, and Larry (Becky) Cosgrove of Olathe Ks. She leaves 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She was sadly proceeded in death by her husband, brother, son-in-law, and granddaughter.

A Memorial Mass will be held on August 22, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at Saint Gabriel's Catholic Church, 1150 Mitchell Ave., Port Orchard, Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Franciscan Hospice House 2901 Bridgeport Way W. University Place, WA 98466-4631 www.chifranciscan.org
