Neil A. Smith, 96, of Port Orchard died Nov. 2, 2012 at St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor. Neil was born May 5, 1916 in Bliss, Nebraska.
He made a living on the Powder River rodeo circuit in the 1930’s. He retired as a welder from P.S.N.S. and went on to work in the pipefitters union until he was 80.
Neil was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint in the Southworth Ward. He served in many positions and was instrumental in the construction of the L.D.S. Hoover Ave. building.
Neil was happiest when he was on a horse, behind a camera, creating with wood, traveling the country and especially spending time with his vast and loving family.
He is preceded in death by first wife of 54 years, Catherine and five brothers.
Survived and loved by his wife of 16 years Juanita, daughter Jean (Stan) Barney, son Kenneth (Susan) Smith, stepsons Earl (Jena) Calderon, Anthony (Karen) Calderon, brother Dean (Dorothy) Smith, sisters in law, Norma Smith and Louise Smith, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Neil’s Life will be Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at 1:00 pm the L.D.S. church in Hoover Ave. in Port Orchard. Viewing will be from 10 to 12:00 Thursday Nov. 8, 2012 at Rill’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. Interment at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard. Online memorial at
