Neoma Vancil

August 28, 1922 — January 12, 2012

Neoma May Vancil, 89, of Port Orchard, WA died January 12, 2012 at Manor Care in Gig Harbor, WA. Neoma was born August 28, 1922 in Danville, IL to Ruby and Tony Frost. She met and married Richard E. Vancil in Danville and they had four children: Larry, Karen, Barbara, and Betty. The family moved to Kitsap County in 1950 when Richard went to work at PSNS. Neoma was a beloved mother and grandmother, raising some of her grandchildren, Christine, Derek, and Vincent. She was a devout Scrabble and Mariners fan and even kept score sheets, news clippings and records since 1977. Neoma was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Eileen Meyers and Dorothy McConnell; brother Jack Frost; daughter Karen Sue Schafer; and grandsons Derek and Vincent Martin. She is survived by son Larry (Sharon) Vancil; daughters Barbara (Rick) Starkel and Betty (Don) Wells; eight grandchildren, Christine (Randy) Gidican, Heather Gardner, Richard (Terry) Vancil, Dutch Masters, Debra Masters and Myron Cross; and eight great grandchildren, Ashley Ann, Brody, Dutch, Richard E, Josiah, Kyle, Savannah and Stacia.  My dearest Grandmother, I want to start by telling you once again I am the person I am today because of your love and guidance. No matter what kind of day you were having your arms were always wide open to hug, love and nourish everyone. Oh how I miss playing our scrabble. I will never forget my first time ever winning! Sure took me years! As you know, your Mariners will start spring training before long and I’m hoping they bring home a series for you this season. Although I don’t know if they will have accurate stats without you writing down your play by play, but I do know they have “Angels in the Outfield.” You with your score pad and grandpa with his glove for foul balls. As I promised Grandma I will do everything I can to make you proud every day. I have such huge shoes to fill as a mom, grandma, and best friend. I know you will always be with me and our Ashley Ann guiding us. We all love you ever so dearly Grandma and I know I will one day feel the embrace of your warm hugs again! I Love You!             - Christine Lynn
