Newton Morton

Newton Turner Morton, 84 of Port Orchard, Washington died at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton on March 4, 2007. He was born on March 11, 1922 in Maryneal, Texas to George F. & Eunice (Ray) Morton. He married Hazel Flippin on May 31, 1941 in Snyder, Texas. Newton owned Palo Duro Heating and Air Conditioning in Amarillo, Texas until his retirement. He volunteered at the VA Hospital in Amarillo for more than 20 years, receiving the Director's Award for over 25,000 hours of volunteer service. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from September 9, 1942 to February 6, 1946, working as an M.P. in the Asiatic & Pacific areas. Newton traveled all over the world with his wife for pleasure and for mission work. He loved to go fishing and camping in the RV. He was an active member of the Southwest Church of Christ in Amarillo, Texas until he moved to Port Orchard where he attended the Port Orchard Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife Hazel; daughters Shirlene (H.T.) Watson of Huntsville, Alabama, Connie (Ray) Switzer of Port Orchard, and Penny (Kenny) Copeland of Chickasha, Oklahoma; sisters Nora Jo (Dean) Ball of Snyder, Texas, Nella Marie Blakely of Portersville, California, Georgia Mae McClammey of South, Texas, and Frankie Huff of Sweetwater, Texas; grandchildren Michael Henricks, Dawn Breland, Lisa King, Michelle Davis, Ange Smith, Melissa Holaday, Tim Switzer, Brad Switzer, and Brian Elam; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by grandson Blythe Hendricks and brothers William Ace "A.C." & Morris James Morton. Visitation will be March 6th from 3:00-5:00 pm,, March 7th & 8th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and March 9th from 9:00-11:30 am at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. Graveside service will be on Friday, March 9, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. Memorial Service at 3:00pm on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Port Orchard Church of Christ.
