Norma was born in Seattle, Washington on July 6, 1936. While growing up she took piano and voice lessons and was active in choir and theatre. She was also a member of Job’s Daughters and was elected honored queen. She graduated from Highline High School in 1954 and went to college at Central Washington University (CWU) where she was active in Delta Kappa Gamma, theatre and where she met Robert Holtz and they became engaged.
Norma and Robert graduated from CWU in May of 1958 with Norma earning a BA in Music. On June 14, 1958 Norma and Bob were married. They moved to Centralia here Norma worked part time as a soloist and taught piano while Bob taught at Rochester High School. While in Centralia they started a family with their son David being born in 1959 and their daughter Karen in 1962.
IN 1962 they moved to Port Orchard and lived for the first 6 months in Yukon Harbor before moving into their first home in the Parkwood neighborhood where they would live for the next 17 years. Norma commuted to the University of Washington for three years earning her teaching certificate in 1966. She then taught grade school at Olalla Elementary until she retired in 1993.
Norma and Bob have been very active in the Port Orchard United Methodist Church in many different capacities. Norma and Bob also enjoyed traveling to many different countries after they retired.
Norma is survived by her husband Robert; two children, David of Aurora, CO, and Karen Gower of Belfair, WA; a sister Ellen of Redmond, OR; two grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
