Jean passed away peacefully, August 3, 2015, at Stafford Nursing Home in Port Orchard.

Born on a farm May 15, 1924 in Spring Valley, near Moorhead City, Iowa, to parents Henry Albert Larson and Libby Vanetta (Montgomery) Larson, Jean was the youngest of four children.

In 1930, Henry and Libby Larson, with daughters, Jean and Mabel and sons, Orville and Albert moved from Moorhead City, Iowa, to Colorado. In Colorado they had a dry land farm and raised sugar beets and dairy cattle.

After graduating High School in 1942, Jean enrolled in a nursing program in Denver, Colorado. Jean left the nursing program to assist the war effort by welding and repairing aircraft at a Denver airfield.

Jean met Robert Jackson at a USO dance in Denver, Colorado. Jean and Bob fell in love and were married on August 25, 1945, in Seattle. Shortly thereafter they moved to Bremerton.

Jean worked in the medical field for many years at Hillhaven Nursing Home in Bremerton and the Retsil Veterans Home as an aide, Lab Assistant, and Building Captain. Jean retired in 1989.
Jean and Robert raised two children, son Robert A. Jackson, KIA in Viet Nam February 1967 and daughter Diane L. Loudon (Jack) they reside in Port Orchard. Jean has a grandson, Christopher Jett, living in Kent, WA.

Jean and Bennett Smith met while fundraising for the South Kitsap class of 1941.
Jean married Bennett E. Smith in 1999 and they lived in Gig Harbor until Ben’s death in 2011. Ben’s daughter Ramona Wollenwebber and husband John reside in Gig Harbor.

Jean enjoyed many different hobbies in life, Jean was an eager companion enjoying camping, fishing, razor clam digging, and hiking in the Olympic Mountains. Jean loved to cook, sew, make quilts, and loved ballroom, square, and line dancing. Jean, while in her 80’s, belonged to an exercise group in Gig Harbor.

In later years she enjoyed crabbing, fishing, and camping with Ben in the boat and RV.

Jean’s ashes will be placed on Robert L. Jackson’s grave at Sunset Lane Cemetery, in Port Orchard.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, at the Eagles Hall in Gig Harbor.
