Opal Eves

Opal Aileen Eves, 98, died in Port Orchard, WA on March 27, 2009.  She was born march 17, 1911 in Hill City, SD to James & Elsie (Endicott) Crago.  She graduated from High School in Hill City, SD in 1929 and graduated from Normal School (for teaching) in Spearfish, SD in 1930.  She married Mervin Hill in Custer, SD on June 2, 1934 who preceded her in death in 1972.  She married Alton Franklin Eves on April 24, 1975 in Richland, WA and he also preceded her in 1981.   Opal worked as a Medical Coder for Dupont and General Electric for 25 years in Richland, WA retiring in 1969.  Her early career was teaching school in SD for 4 years, while boarding with future in-laws and teaching in a one room schoolhouse. Opal was an avid reader until her eyesight diminished and then she enjoyed listening to books.  In earlier years, she did beautiful knitting, crocheting, macrame' & needlepoint.  She loved dogs, especially her chow mix "Suzy".  She and her first husband enjoyed traveling with the Wally Byam Airstream Caravan Club. After his death she continued to travel, pulling her own trailer with "Bently" a stuffed St. Bernard who rode in the passenger seat.  After her second marriage she joined the LDS Church and remained a member while living in Mesa, AZ, SLC, UT, Richland, WA and Port Orchard. Surviving are stepdaughter Barbra (Clark) Young; stepson Gary (Sherma) Eves; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and great-nephew Don (Alice) Hill whom she lived with for the past 10 years; 4 sisters-in-law; many other nieces & nephews, great & great, great nieces & nephews; friends; and special friend Mary Felts. Public viewing at 1:00 pm with a Celebration of Life at 2:00pm on April 4, 2009 at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.  Entombment at Sunset Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum in Richland, WA.  Online memorial at www.rill.com .  Memorial donations to Kitsap Regional Library, Port Orchard Branch, 87 Sidney Ave, Port Orchard, WA 98366.
