Opal Martin died at the Port Orchard Care Center in Port Orchard, Washington August 16, 2002. She was 94.She was born May 21, 1908 in Cleburne, Texas to William and Lelah (Kennedy) Waddell.She graduated from high school; and married Claude Martin January 1, 1946 in Yuma, Arizona.She worked as Fountain Manager for J.J. Newberry in El Centro, California for 27 years. She later managed food service for Holtvill Union High in California for a number of years.She had a great reputation for the pies she baked at Newberry's; and had a passion for her Dachshund "Gretchen" given to her by family members. She is survived by her son Jay Waldman of Port Orchard, Washington; and by 4 grandchildren: Kathy Backman of Port Orchard, Washington; David Waldman of Lemon Grove, California; William Waldman of Leesburg, Virginia; and Nancy Waldman of Richmond, Virginia.Graveside inurnment is being planned for Ft.
