Otto H. Bublat was born September 22, 1917 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to George and Bertha(Schwartz) Bublat. As a teen he believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and was assured of his salvation. God became his Heavenly Father, removed his fear of Satan, and enabled him to follow Jesus all his life. Otto completed pastoral training and graduated from the Missionary Training Institute (now Nyack (NY) College) in 1941. On June 21, 1942, he married Martha Constance whom he had met at college. She would be his helpmeet for 68 years! During 41 years of C&MA ministry, Pastor and Mrs. Bublat served churches in Mansfield and Ashland, Ohio, East St. Louis, Illinois, W. Hartford, Connecticut, San Bernardino, Campbell, San Lorenzo, and Hayward, California. His commitment to advance Christ’s kingdom was evident by his faithful prayers for missionaries both at home and abroad and giving to meet their financial needs. His love for children led him to be active in Bible quizzing, summer camping ministries and youth rallies. In 1970 major surgery disabled him from full-time church work but as God restored his strength he enjoyed interim pastorates, preaching opportunities, and ministering to the needs of others with a greater compassion than ever before. This included many years of effective teaching and counseling in the areas of fasting and prayer, spiritual warfare, and the image of God in man. Having grown up during the Great Depression, he knew the value of every dollar earned and purposed to be a good steward of all that God entrusted to him. He was generous with his time and served others with the handyman skills he had learned. Those who knew him readily affirm that he had a reverence for God, a commitment to prayer, and a love for people. In 2002 Otto and Martha moved to Port Orchard, Washington to be closer to family. He loved to take his grandkids on coffee breaks, and write them special stories using his unique “slanguage”. Otto died at home on March 9, 2013. Preceding him in death were his wife Martha, brother Walter, and sisters Emma and Ruth. He is survived by his daughters Helen Valentine of Anchorage, Alaska, and Ruth(Tim) Roth of Port Orchard, Washington; son Jim(Carolyn) of Port Orchard, Washington; 16 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
