Patricia Dutt, loving wife, mother, grandmother and pharmacist, died peacefully in her sleep on January 7, 2017 in Gig Harbor, Washington at age 89.
Patricia Lucille Procknow was born in Madison, South Dakota to parents Fredrick and Ruth Procknow. As a teenager during WWII, she worked at the soda fountain in the local Rexall Drug Store and was inspired to become a pharmacist. She maintained a perfect attendance record all the way through elementary school and high school. After graduating from Madison High School, she attended South Dakota State College in Brookings where she meet and fell in love with her future husband Gottlieb “Dutt” Dutt, a WWII pilot, Army Air Corp veteran and engineering student. Patricia was a one of four female pharmacy students and earned a bachelor degree in pharmacy. Patricia and Dutt were engaged after graduation and Dutt went to work at the Boeing Company in Seattle. Patricia stayed in South Dakota for 2 years where she worked and lived at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen as a pharmacist.
Patricia and Dutt were married in 1951. She joined him in Seattle where they lived in an apartment on Beacon Hill, made lifelong friendships and established roots in Washington. Patricia worked at the Boeing wind tunnel for 6 years. She left Boeing shortly before the birth of her daughter, Sandra. In 1961, the family moved to the home they built in Bellevue and a few years later had a son, Gary. Patricia was a loving mother and homemaker. She was an excellent cook known for her Midwestern meals, pies made from scratch and homemade cookies. Patricia was involved in her community and active with Eastern Star, Campfire Girls, Garden Club, Job’s Daughters, P.E.O., Daughters of the Nile and various church groups. She used her talents in crafting, knitting and baking to support church, service groups and school fundraisers. Patricia also maintained her pharmacist license until Dutt retired in 1987.
Patricia and Dutt enjoyed retirement taking time to golf, travel to Europe, cruise to Canada and through the Panama Canal, and visit family and friends throughout the States. Patricia especially enjoyed visiting her sister in Augusta Georgia, where she had the opportunity to attend several Master’s Golf Tournaments. Patricia and Dutt loved becoming grandparents and spoiling their two grandsons, Christopher and Jacob. In 1999, they moved to Kirkland. Patricia and Dutt loved each other deeply and were married for more than 56 years. Patricia cared for her beloved Dutt through a serious illness until he preceded her in death in 2007. A year after the loss of her husband, she moved to Gig Harbor to be closer to Gary and his family. Patricia loved visiting with family and friends, going out for a cheeseburger and fries, reading her daily paper and the Cub’s 2016 World Series win. She was an extraordinary woman and will be dearly missed.
Patricia is survived by her daughter, Sandra Dutt (LaVern Zeller) of Holly, Michigan; son, Gary Dutt (Jana) and grandsons, Christopher and Jacob of Olalla, Washington; and sister, Jane Engstrom of Augusta, Georgia.
Grave-side services will be held on March 18, 2017, at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bellevue, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
