Patrick Bunten

Patrick R. Bunten, 79 of Port Orchard, Washington died at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Washington on January 9, 2006. He was born March 17, 1926 in Seattle, Washington to Samuel & Eva (Landaker) Bunten. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard in 1944. He married Jean Klumb on September 5, 1947 in Seattle. Patrick graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1953. He attained a Masters of Education from Washington State University at Pullman in 1966. Patrick also completed advanced study in Psychology at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. Patrick was an Educator for 30 years, retiring in 1982 as Administrator and Athletic Director at South Kitsap High School. He was the first Principal at Madrona Heights and served as teacher, coach & administrator for Marcus Whitman Jr High School, teacher at Orchard Heights Elementary School, and was a high school teacher & coach in Mansfield, Washington from 1953-1954. After his retirement, Patrick worked as a Psychologist with Sound Counseling in Port Orchard. He also served with the Army Air Corps in 1945. Patrick was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity honoring educators; Elks Club of Bremerton, Knights of Pythias and Kiwanis in Port Orchard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid outdoorsman. Surviving are wife Jean; son Dan (Donna) Bunten of Elk Grove, California; daughters Bridgit (Paul) Bain of Cincinnati, Ohio and Mary (Michael) Ginther of Wenatchee, Washington; and nine grandchildren. Memorial service will be at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard at 10:00 am on Friday, January 13, 2006. Inurnment will follow at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard. Memorial donations may be made to Harrison Medical Center, Medic 7 - South Kitsap, or the South Kitsap High School Athletic Program.
