Patrick Carl York

September 15, 1939 — July 12, 2013

Patrick York, 73, died peacefully Friday, July 12 after being diagnosed a decade ago with Alzheimer’s.
Pat was born September, 15, 1939 in Bellingham WA to Vera York. He was raised by his mother and his adopted father Elbert “Curly” York. He married Charolette Grinton on June 16, 1962. In 1970, Pat and Charolette moved to Port Orchard where they spent the rest of their lives, and raised their three children. Pat was a volunteer for many years with the South Kitsap Fire Department and served as an ASA fast pitch umpire alongside his wife. The majority of his working life was spent in banking.
In December of 1990, related to a birth defect, Pat became a paraplegic. Although he was given 10 years to live, he was determined to prove otherwise. In spite of his limited mobility, he was committed to remain independent. Even as a paraplegic he continued to serve as an umpire-in-chief for ASA tournaments.
Pat was preceded in death by his wife Charolette, his parents Curly and Vera York, and his daughter-in-law Katherine. Pat is survived by a brother Bill (Judy) York, a sister Penny (Jim) Moore all of Bellingham WA, three children, Linnea (Greg) Hess of Port Orchard, Cheryl (David) Head of Puyallup and Carl York of Port Orchard, and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 29th at 1 pm at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard, WA. A reception will follow immediately after at Rill Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Olympic College Foundation, Charolette York Scholarship Fund, 1600 Chester Avenue, Bremerton WA, 98337.
