Paul Richmond went to be with his Lord on the morning of 10/23/2020, 5 days after his 69th birthday. He leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Aileen, as well as his accumulation of children: Christine A. Saetre, Michelle A. Mensinger, Tamara E. Smith, Jesse J. McCann, Derek H. Smith, and Margaret Ann Whitman. He was preceded in death by his father, Jess E. Richmond; his mother, Margaret H. Richmond; and his late wife, Elizabeth A. Richmond.
Paul was born Paul Edwin Richmond to Jess E. and Margaret H. (Shipman) Richmond in Bremerton WA. His family later moved to Agnew WA where his Father repaired and built fishing boats. Paul, being the oldest, went out with his father fishing from the time he was 5 years old. He also helped around the farm and milked the cows.
Paul was extraordinarily gifted in many areas. He grew up building fishing boats and commercially fishing for salmon and tuna. He graduated from Sequim high school and has stayed connected to those classmates by attending all the reunions for the class of ‘70. For a time, he was the official photographer for the Sequim newspaper. He attended George Fox University, spent 4 years serving with a Mennonite Central Committee clinic in Franklin, LA. They spent 3 more years in Franklin where he and his late wife established a battered women’s shelter which is still rescuing women to this day. Upon returning to Washington, he worked for Aerospace Distributors as a computer programmer and software developer, then for a time with a consulting firm. The last 20 years of his working life were spent developing accounting software for McFarland Cascade. He kept busy in his spare time by building an 11½ ft sailing pram, a teardrop trailer, a new deck for the house, a remodel of the half bath, various other woodworking projects, and had begun a boat renovation project with a friend at the time of his departure.
He could swim like a fish, was a gifted photographer, and a brilliant programmer, He sang in the church choir. For a time, he took up scuba diving and once salvaged a 35 pound porthole from a wreck that was 80 feet deep. He loved the foods that he learned to cook while in Louisiana and especially loved clam chowder. He took his wife clamming every year to the Dungeness spit to take in a supply of clams for that chowder. He was a faithful caretaker for his late wife while she battled cancer and was a single father for almost 2 years.
Paul was well liked by those he had contact with and he served as the president of PSNUG (Puget Sound Network Users group) as well as President of DISD (Dataflex International Software Developers).
