Pauline Barra

August 14, 1913 — January 15, 2006

Pauline Barra, 92, left this Earth to be with her Lord and Savior with her daughters at her side on January 15, 2006. She was a resident of Ridgemont Senior Apartments at the time of her death.       She was born in Astoria, Oregon to Emma and Emil Martin. She was raised in Skamokawa, Washington. She graduated from Wahkiakum High School and Central Washington University. She met her husband, Don Barra, in Buena, Washington, where she was teaching. They were married on June 1, 1941. She moved to Port Orchard in 1952 and spent 24 years as a teacher in South Kitsap at East Port Orchard, South Colby and Givens elementary schools. She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church, Waterman Circle, Jennie Miller Orthopedic Guild, Sons of Norway, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Bremerton Elks. She enjoyed playing Bridge, golf, and had traveled throughout the world. She was preceded in death in 2000 by her husband, Don, and her brothers Norman, Kenneth and Harold. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Fleming (Howard) of Pinehurst, NC; and her daughter, Joyce Peters (Kirk) of Tacoma. She has two grandchildren Howard (Jan) of Spartanburg, SC and their two sons, HJ and Ben; and her granddaughter, Deborah Gaynor (Dennis) of Monroe, CT, and their two sons Ryan and Sean. Also, 3 step grandsons, Alex, Chris and Dan Peters. Pauline is survived by 4 nieces and 3 nephews and her cousin, Esther Jean Wiita. She leaves behind many cherished friends who will miss her kind, gentle, and helpful spirit. She gave many hours to helping others in many ways throughout her life. Her family would like to thank Hospice of Kitsap County, Dr. Brad Frandsen and Dr. John Doces. Also, her dear friend, Lydia Simonson and the staff at Ridgemont Apartments for the special loving care they gave to her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Elim Lutheran Church or Hospice of Kitsap County. Her funeral will be held at Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard on Saturday, January 21, at 1 p.m. followed by receptions at Elim and Ridgemont. She will be inurned at Sunset Lane Cemetery next to her husband.
