Phyllis Ruth Taber

July 2, 1941 — March 31, 2014

Phyllis Ruth Taber passed away peacefully on March 31, 2014 at the Fred Lowthian Care Center in Bremerton, Washington at the age of 72. She battled cancer gracefully and with an optimistic spirit.
Phyllis was born in Poughkeepsie, Arkansas on July 2, 1941 to Ernest and Ruth Milligan in a cabin on the “old home place” acreage. During her childhood, the family moved to San Bernadino, California and she graduated from Pacifica High School.
Phyllis married Frank Taber in 1961 and was a stay-at-home mom with their two daughters. She was a caring, patient, and loving mother. She willingly made Halloween costumes and clothes for barbies. She served in Girl Scouts as a Brownie leader and volunteered in school. She had many hobbies, such as painting ceramics and sewing. Continuing with her willingness to serve others, she volunteered at Harrison Hospital and was a member of a service sorority.
After her daughters were grown, Phyllis worked at Holly Ridge Center for many years both in the office setting and with the clients. She continued to use her caring, motherly manner in guiding the clients in their work. She also returned to her hobbies of knitting and crochet, and many were the recipients of scarves, hats, and blankets made with love.
Survivors include her mother, Ruth Milligan, of Bremerton; Michele (Brian) Sauer of Port Orchard; Lisa (Matt) Scott of Bothell; and grandsons Jacob (Amy) Sauer, Nick Sauer, Alex Scott, Gabriel Scott and Riley Scott. She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Milligan and sister, Jane Milligan.
Daughters Michele and Lisa would like to express sincere gratitude for the loving care provided to both their mother and to them by Hospice of Kitsap County and the special staff at its Fred Lowthian Care Center.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 6:00 p.m. at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. The family would love to hear stories and memories shared by her family and friends. Flowers are welcome. Donations may also be made in her memory to Holly Ridge Center (hollyridge.org)
