Raymond Samuel Johnson passed away peacefully on Friday, April 9, 2010 at the age of 91. He was born December 22, 1918 in Mount Olive, Illinois to Samuel and Ida (Bartels) Johnson. In 1941, Ray Johnson traveled from Fort Bliss, Texas to the state of Washington, being attached to the 202nd Coast Artillery after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was then stationed at Keyport and Lemolo, where he met the love of his life, Doris (Kolstad). The two were married in Poulsbo, Washington. He was then sent to Germany and was assigned to the Timberwolf Division of the 396th Infantry, serving his country during World War II. A veteran serviceman, Ray retired as a Planner and Estimator for the Department of Defense in Bangor, Washington. "Papa Ray," as he was affectionately known, is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Doris, and his children, Karen Johnson, Linda Grebb (Jerry), Carol Pearson (Marc), and Terry Johnson (Keri); his 7 grandchildren; his 7 great-grandchildren; his brother Vern Johnson (Phyllis), and sister-in-law Marie Johnson. He was preceded in death by his brother Ivan Johnson (Marie). The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice Care Center in Bremerton.
