Rebecca Beck

Rebecca Otte Beck, 81 of Olalla, Washington, died Sunday, September 1.She was born March 24, 1921 to Wilhelm and Clara (Reimann) Otte in New Leipzig, North Dakota, where she was raised and educated. She spent one year at Wartburg College before she was old enough to attend nurses training at Bethesda Hosital in St. Paul, Minnesota.On October 28, 1944, she was married to Karl Beck in Spokane, Washington. Following the war they lived in Elgin, North Dakota. In 1950 they moved to Seattle where they raised their 4 children. In 1976 they moved to Olalla, Washington where they spent their retirement years.Becky's grandchildren were a great joy to Oma, as they affectionately called her. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, and church activities. In retirement she was especially involved in sewing Lutheran World Relief quilts.While living in Seattle she was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Following the move to Olalla she was a member of First Lutheran Church in Port Orchard. In 1992 she became a charter member of Spirit of Life Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.Rebecca is survived by her children and their spouses - Bill and Mary Ann Beck, of Ridgefield, Washington; Chuck and Carol Beck of Petersburg, West Virginia; Karla and David Olson of Sandpoint, Idaho; and Alicia and Larry Wells of Olalla, Washington; a sister Ludvina Dietz and her husband, Cliff, of Eunice, New Mexico; her grandchildren - Sarah, Paul and Elizabeth Beck; Kathy Daniels, Diane Harlow, and Jody Beck; Katrina, Dieter, Jens and Brita Olson; and Chelsea, Rebecca and Jakob Wells and great-grandchildren - Derek, Robin and Devan Harlow; Whitney Mullenax and Travis Hedrick.Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 7, at Spirit of Life Lutheran in Port Orchard. Graveside will follow at Fraola Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from Noon to 5 p.m. at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.
