Richard Grant

April 6, 1957 — August 6, 2008

Richard Eric Grant died of brain cancer.  He was born in Bremerton, WA. to Kenneth and Sonia (Nilsen) Peterson.  After his mother remarried, he was adopted by his new father David Grant.  He was raised in Colby and attended South Kitsap Schools graduating in 1975.  He attended Olympic College completing an associate science degree and a carpenter's apprenticeship in 1979.  He was a career union carpenter.  He also attended the University of Washington majoring in Economics. Richard took countless workshops studying a wide range of topics including: cooking, antiques, real estate.  He enjoyed travel, backpacking through Europe as a youth, also traveling around North America.  He was a certified scuba diver and enjoyed water and snow skiing, sailing and sky diving.  He loved food and liked to cook specializing in Scandinavian dishes.  He is survived by his parents Sonia and Bob Blanchard and David and Nancy Grant; a sister Kirstin Grant; 3 step sisters, Alicia Grosso, Andrea Grosso Kaempf, and Teri Derouin; 3 step brothers, R E Blanchard, Bobby Blanchard, and Craig Blanchard; a grandfather Gordon Grant and step Grandmother Anne Blanchard; aunts and uncles Chris Grant, David and Dasha Nilsen, Karl and Nancee Nilsen, Paul and Wanda Nilsen, and Sharon Solie; step aunts and uncles Alice Quinley, John Blanchard, Mike Blanchard; cousins Elizabeth Thomas, David Solie, Cheri Gerstenberger, Dan Nilsen, Jennifer Boyce, Kari Nilsen, Niki Cummings, Mark Nilsen, Robyn Nagli; step cousins Virginia Quinley, Todd Rogers, Billie Solie, Chris Blanchard, Hugh Duncan, Robin Duncan; nieces Hannah Cylkowski and Abigail Cylkowski; step nephew Alex Kaempf. He was preceded in death by aunts Corinne Solie and June Nilsen; step aunt Florence Robertson; uncles Nathan Nilsen, Gordon Solie; step uncle Glenn Quinley; and cousin James Nilsen. A Memorial Service will be held at Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 13, 2008.  His ashes will be buried at sea.  In lieu of flowers send contributions to Habitat for Humanity, 121 Habitat Street, Americus, GA 31709-3498.
