Richard K. Gumenberg, 76 of Port Orchard, Washington died on October 11, 2000 at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton, Washington. He was born February 10, 1924 in Spokane, Washington to Emil & Gertrude (Shriver) Gumenberg. Richard married Kathleen M. Walter on December 14, 1963 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.Mr. Gumenberg worked for 23 years as a commercial Painter and a Painter for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton where he retired in 1987. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1952 attaining the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class Ships Cook. He was awarded the World War II and Korean Service Medals. Richard was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed woodworking. Surviving are his wife Kathleen; son Kip Gumenberg of Port Orchard; daughters Mary Bettger of Port Orchard; Kim Wittig of Port Orchard and Kristin Gumenberg of Port Orchard; brother Donald of Spokane, Washington; sister Dorothy Betcher of Seattle, Washington; 7 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by daughter Teri Wittig and 2 brothers George & Jack.Visitation will be at Rill Chapel Sunday, October 15, 2000 3:00pm to 5:00pm and Monday, October 16, 2000 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Memorial Mass will be at 1:00pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2000 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard with inurnment following at Sunset Lane Cemetery in Port Orchard. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society Kitsap Unit, P.O.Box 2382 Bremerton, WA 98310.
