It is with immense sadness that I write of the passing of our beloved son, brother, and father Richard Voss Higginson on October the 8th, 2024. He was known to Family simply as RV, Higgi to his workmates, and forever Dickie to his mother. He led a rather simple life of camping and fishing with his children. His career was spent at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Once upon a time he built boilers, when such things were still produced within the shipyard. He was Nuclear Glove Bag certified and spent a great deal of time in controlled environments supporting our nation as one of the little guys. Always bearded and arrayed in various plaids and blue jeans, he was hard to spot among his fellow shipyard cohorts. As a father of nine rambunctious children, he managed to remain pretty mellow throughout the years. An active outdoorsman all his life he always maintained a passion for fishing. He always provided the first fishing pole to every child and grandchild for the last fifty years. Whether in a treacherous Jon boat propelled by oar ready to tip at any moment, or his prized fourteen-foot aluminum StarCraft, you would see him out on the water. Ever in tow were three or four knee-high youngins hoping to catch “the big one” with Dad. He always looked out for everyone in a very RV sort of way. Retirement suited him well and provided ample hours of early morning trips to the sporting goods stores. He swapped most of his plaid for an array of timber-patterned camo. Fall hardwood with a touch of green was his favorite. With a turkey feather in his cap and a sly gleam in his eye, you’d see him in his silver truck about the town. If you keep your eyes sharp you may just catch a glimpse of him headed down the fishing aisle at Cabela’s, grabbing the next pole for a great grandchild that we’ve all yet to meet.
RV was preceded in Death by his Mother and Father, Gwen and Max Higginson, youngest Brother Brent Higginson, and Brother-In-Law Duke Klein.
