Richard J. Kessler, 82, of Bremerton died Aug. 4, 2012 in Bremerton. Richard was born March 9, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Adeline (Baus) Kessler. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1947 during the Korean conflict and retired as a Yeoman 1st Class in 1967. Richard married the former Utako Uemura in August of 1959 and she preceded him in death in 2003. He was employed as an athletic director at Pearl Harbor Naval Base where he planned & organized various sports tournaments for sailors, which included ordering trophies/awards & planning the banquets. He enjoyed science fiction movies, playing video games on the computer. He had a soft spot for animals & they seemed to sense it as all the cats he ever had (approx.7) adopted him. He is survived by a daughter Jean (Mike) Neilson of Port Orchard, grandchildren Jason Kessler, Adam Silver, great grandchildren Matthew and Zachary. Private family service. Online memorial at
