Richard Melick

Richard James Melick died of cancer at his Port Orchard, Washington home on September 22, 2002. He was 72.He was born January 12, 1930 in Waterloo, Iowa, to Roy and Mary (Quinn) Melick. Richard served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952. He attained rank of Boilerman Third Class.He worked as a Stationary Engineer for the Department of Defense for 30 years (the last 15 years at Fort Lewis, Washington). He retired in 1988.He was a local sports fan and enjoyed hunting. Richard served as a deacon at the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Port Orchard, Washington.He is survived by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth (Taylor) Melick, of Port Orchard, Washington; son Bernard Melick (and wife Diane) of Auburn, Washington; daughters - Zoe Norwood (and husband Ken) of Port Orchard, Washington and Gwynne Godwin (and husband Sam) of Tonasket, Washington; brothers - Clyde Melick of Waterloo, Iowa, Harry Melick of Talent, Oregon, Gail Melick of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Paul Melick of Waterloo, Iowa and Eugene Melick of Vallejo, California; sisters - Lorraine Raine of Waterloo, Iowa, Lucinda Padget of Shellrock, Iowa and Evelyn Johnson of Walla Walla, Washington; 7 grandchildren (Sarah, Sam, Hannah Melick and Adam and Benjamin Norwood and Courtney and Etta Godwin). He was preceded in death by his sisters Margaret and Grace and brother Roy.A memorial service will be held at the family home located at 9373 Lawrence Dr. S.E., Port Orchard, Washington, at 11:00 a.m. on October 5, 2002 (Saturday).Memorial Donations may be made (in lieu of flowers) to:Kitsap County HospiceP.O.
