Richard Mellinger

Richard P. Mellinger, 71, a resident of Bremerton, died in Silverdale on March 5, 2010 of natural causes. He was born in Oakville, Iowa to Paul and Alice (Treichler) Mellinger. He graduated from Central High School in Grand Junction, Colorado in 1957 and went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree from Southern Illinois University. He married Sue Ann Walters in Grand Junction and she preceded him in death in 2006. Richard served in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1984 in the Submarine Service and was a Viet Nam Era Veteran. He attained the rank of Torpedoman Chief. He loved to travel to places like Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada and Mexico.  He is survived by son Michael Mellinger (Senta) of Silverdale; daughter Shannon Ellingson (Michael) of Bremerton; sister Letha Hunt (David) of Grand Junction, CO; three grandchildren Alyssa and Joshua Mellinger and Kylie Ellingson and numerous cousins and other extended family members. Private services will be held by the family at a later date.
