Richard "Dick" Reising Peyrek, 79 of Port Orchard, Washington died on December 28, 2005 in Bremerton, Washington. He was born on February 6, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York to Theodore Rudolph & Maria (Reising) Peyrek. He graduated from Richmond High School in Staten Island, New York in 1943. He also graduated from the New York State Maritime Academy in 1946 and Cook's College in Rutgers in 1951. He married Muriel Hong Fong Lee in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on July 3, 1976. Dick was a veteran of both the Navy and Merchant Marines. He served for 45 years achieving the ranks of Lieutenant Commander in the Navy and Merchant Marine Commander. He was a Marine Engineer serving at Navy and Merchant Marine duty stations and retiring in June of 1989. He engineered on several transport ships, cargo ships, and oilers taking supplies to fleet and outlying bases such as Thule, Greenland and Macmurdo Sound, Antactica, Vietnam, and Japan. He later became an engineering inspector on the ships. Because of his experience, he was asked to establish a damage and fire school for the Merchant Marine Service at Earle Ammo Depot, New Jersey. The school still operates today. He also ran a turkey farm with his brother for his father, Theodore, in Washington, New Jersey for 3 or 4 years between his time in the service. Dick loved his dogs and other animals and enjoyed traveling close to the sea and mountains. He was a member of OWL Senior Group at First Lutheran Church in Port Orchard. He was also a member of the Kitsap County Woodcarver's Club and a 30 year member of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Muriel; daughter Lori Reiter and husband, Hans Eric of Bochum West Germany; brother Theodore Peyrek, Jr. and wife Virginia of Washington, New Jersey; grandchildren Kirsten, Katherine & Julia Reiter; nieces Karen Fardelmann and Margot Ling; nephews Theodore (Virginia) Peyrek, Thomas (Barbara) Peyrek, and Chris Ling; grandnieces Kirsten & Katey Fardelmann, Emily & Michaela Peyrek; grandnephews Kyle Fardelmann & Matthew Peyrek; and sisters-in-law Isabel Lee and Anna Ling. Visitation will be held from noon to 5pm on Monday, January 2, 2006 at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. Funeral service will be at First Lutheran Church in Port Orchard on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at 11:00 am with visitation at the church, 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Haven of Rest Memorial Park in Gig Harbor, Washington following the service at 2:00pm.
