Richard Rylander
9/22/1926 – 6/5/2021
Richard was born in Hoquiam, WA. He lived in Moclips. WA for 6 years and then moved to Port Orchard. Richard attended South Kitsap Schools
Richard was the owner and manager of Myhre’s Café for 30 years. He worked for Haas Real Estate for several years and owned his own taxi company. Richard was a member of the Port Orchard city council.
Richard served as president of the Young Republicans club, was chairman of the Kitsap County Planning Commission, and a member of the Port Orchard city council.
Richard was a member of the Eagles and the Elks.
Vacationing in Mexico, and peanut butter cookies were among Richard’s fondest memories.
When it came to activities, Richard enjoyed traveling. Aside from trips in the U.S., Richard vacationed in Mexico, Europe, Asia and the Philippines.
He attended many family birthdays, reunions, Christmas parties and weddings. Richard was a family man in the truest sense of the word.
Richard’s hobbies include flying as a private pilot, watching historic documentaries, watching news. Richard was learning and using Spanish, enjoyed astronomy and dining out.
Favorite places included Myhre’s, the beach, Mexico and anywhere with family.
Richard treasured nature and enjoyed all flowers, but especially Gladiolas, Rhododendrons, and Azaleas.
Richard’s service time was in the Merchant Marines from 1943 to 1946.
A graveside memorial service was held on June 14, 2021 at Sunset Lane Memorial Park Cemetery in Port Orchard.

I always associate Uncle Richard with wine. He always seemed to appreciate it. I remember one day at a graduation party at Mission Lake: He invited me to taste the wine. He heated it in the microwave and swirled it and smelled it. Robbie Wiley (nephew)
Richard always lent a helping hand. He gave me a ride back from Plum Point when I needed to get back for work. He had a good time driving back Puget Sound. He even let me drive his beautiful black Monte Carlo. Since then, he was always nice to me. I loved that man! Paul Arrants (brother-in-Law)
